Discipleship and Training

Discipleship, Mentoring and Leadership Development

We're committed to helping people grow through personal mentoring and training, enabling them to play their part in God's world. The Bible calls this "equipping all of God's people for works of service" (Ephesians 4:12).

We regularly run the following training programmes…

STEP Leadership Training

STEP is our first level leadership development course. Over 6 months, a rhythm of discipleship groups and training sessions will help you step into the call of God to lead as a Christian at work, in the community, at college, or in the church.

The course includes understanding the call to godly leadership, learning to lead ourselves, getting passionate about Jesus, learning to read the Bible well, missional living, discipleship, and leading with vision.

STEP has 6 sessions in total - 4 Saturday mornings and 2 Sunday evenings from autumn to spring each year. Between each session there will be short reading, study or other activities to do in your own time.

STEP is for

  • anyone in Lifehouse who is willing to grow in leadership and

  • willing to be personally mentored (if you don't already have a mentor we will help you find one) and

  • part of a church Community (small group)

If you've not yet completed our church membership course (a simple journey to help you understand our 'church DNA' / vision and values) we like you to do this before or soon after starting STEP and can help you arrange this.

If you're a very new Christian, it's probably more appropriate to complete another one of our courses first - do ask us.

Upper Room

Upper Room is a leadership development programme supporting the growth of leaders who lead with faith, think biblically and relate graciously.

It trains leaders in an integrated way: combining theology and practice; considering the whole of life; and transforming hearts and minds.

Upper Room is centred on a discipleship group of 6-8 people, facilitated by a mentor, high quality self-study materials and regular day conferences.

Upper Room provides…

  • Integrated learning: leadership learning and theological education.

  • Strong partnership: churches are working closely with the Upper Room team.

  • Flexible format: based around discipleship groups, with a range of self-study resources.

  • Mentors who are disciplers: learning for life, guided by seasoned leaders.

  • Robust approach: evangelical and considered, encouraging critical thinking in a relational context.
